Best On The Block: February 2022

It's the last day of February, so it's time to show six of the best releases that were featured in various post during the month.

#1: 2013 Dodge Viper SRT - 2022 Hot Wheels 5-Pack

Why I Picked It: In many of my post, I'll make mention of how blue is my all-time favorite color. Well, blue became my favorite color at the same time the Dodge Viper became my all-time favorite car. Long story short, the first Viper I ever saw as a kid was blue with white stripes. Now then, as for why this release took the number one spot, well... I don't think I need to say anything else.

#2: Pagani Huayra Roadster - 2022 Matchbox Collectors Series

Why I Picked It: Although I have a few releases of the Hot Wheels version, this one from Matchbox is one of my favorites. Some of you might have wanted it due to it featuring a moving part, and I'll admit that it's a cool feature. But that's not why I wanted it. For a while now, I was hoping to see a two-tone Huayra Roadster, and it didn't matter if it was from Hot Wheels or Matchbox. I just wanted one with the color scheme, and this Matchbox release is exactly what I was hoping to see.

#3: 1949 Kurtis Sport Car - 2022 Matchbox Mainline

Why I Picked It: This release was automatically qualified for a spot in this post due to it being a classic sports car. And it would have taken the number two spot if Hot Wheels hadn't released the Viper.

#4: 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT - 2022 Matchbox Mainline

Why I Picked It: Once again, a Mitsubishi 3000GT is being considered one of the best releases on the block. Basically, I can't get over my excitement for these new Mitsubishi castings. So you might end up seeing them featured in a few more editions of Best On The Block in the future.

#5: 1970 Ford Capri - 2022 Matchbox Retro Series

Why I Picked It: I still like the debut release of this casting, but its hood has stripes. And while there's nothing wrong that, I will admit that I was eagerly waiting for a plain release. Fortunately, I didn't have to wait that long for one. Besides not having any designs on it, it was finished in a very nice color.

#6: Lamborghini Sesto Elemento - 2022 Hot Wheels 5-Pack

Why I Picked It: To be honest, the releases from the Motor Show 5-pack would have taken up five of the six spots in this post. That's how much I like them. But I chose to only pick two, and this one beat out the other three. For the longest time now, I've wanted to have a nice looking Sesto Elemento on display, and I couldn't have asked for a better one than this. Maybe it's just me, but I think yellow and red is a cool combination for this car.

Okay, those are the six releases I picked for this month's edition of Best On The Block. Now that you know my favorites, go ahead and let me know down in the comments what your favorite releases were from this month.

2022 Matchbox Collectors Series: Pagani Huayra Roadster - Just As Good As Hot Wheels

Hello, and welcome to another additional feature here on the boulevard. Don't you just love when both of Mattel's diecast brands give us the same car? I know I do, and I think it's neat to be able to see how each brand designs their version. Sometimes, I'll like both of their castings equally, while other times I'll like one brands casting better than the other. And the Viper RT/10 is a perfect example of the latter. I, for one, think we can all agree that Matchbox's version has better proportions. Anyway, today's post isn't about that Viper. Instead, it's about why I decided to get another Matchbox car that is also made by Hot Wheels. So with that being said, let's being.

As you saw from my social media post, the vehicle I'm talking about today is Matchbox's version of the Pagani Huayra Roadster. This Matchbox casting made its Moving Parts debut last year, and it was a release I never saw. In case you didn't read this additional feature, you should know that I didn't have much luck with last year's Moving Parts Series. So that's why you never really saw any of them featured in a post. Now, even if I did find the debut release of Matchbox's Huayra on the pegs, I most likely would have left it behind for a specific reason.

Despite having a moving feature, that release was finished in a blue that looks very similar to the blue used for the debut release of the Hot Wheels Huayra Roadster. And I know it had gold wheels, but that still wasn't enough to make me really search for it. So at the time, I had no interest in it because I already had the debut release of the Hot Wheels one. And I continued to not care about Matchbox's version until I found the one I'm talking about today.

So if I didn't care about it, what made me change my mind? To answer your question, just look at this release's color scheme. It might not be all of them, but many of Pagani's Huayras are seen with a two-tone color scheme like the one given to this release. And that has made me want a two-tone 1:64 scale Huayra.

Now, Hot wheels did release their Huayra (not the Roadster) with a two-tone color scheme, but it was released as an id. But I didn't feel the need to have it, since I already had the Gran Turismo release. And I know it wasn't finished in the same blue, but the id release was still blue nonetheless. Furthermore, I didn't feel the need to pay $5 for another blue one. Had it been finished in a different color, I probably would have gotten it. Anyway, Hot Wheels has yet to release their Huayra Roadster casting with a two-tone color scheme. And even if they do eventually release one, it probably wouldn't be as good as this one. After all, it'll most likely be a mainline release. So due to it being a premium, Matchbox was able to give us a fantastic two-tone replica of Pagani's Huayra Roadster. I especially like how they chose a color that hasn't already been used for the Hot Wheels version.

So what about its moving feature? Did that contribute to me getting this release? To be honest, no it didn't. I mean, it is nice to finally have one with an opening feature in my collection. But I'm not going to take it out of its pack, so it's not a feature I really care about. Ultimately, all I cared about was its two-tone color scheme.

When it comes to the wheels, I don't have an issue with the ones they picked. However, I do think it'd be nice if Matchbox was able to give this release the ten spoke RR wheels that Hot Wheels has at their disposal. In my opinion, those are the best possible wheels for this car, since they look somewhat similar to the real Huayra's wheels.

Among the Huayra Roadsters I have, this one is definitely one of my favorites, since it features the two-tone color scheme. So I'm glad I was able to add it to my collection. And I'll add even more of them to my collection if Matchbox continues to do releases like this.

So how do you feel about this release? Do you also like it for the same reasons I do? Go ahead and let me know down in the comments section. Alright, that's all for this addition feature. Until next time, thanks for reading, and happy collecting. And remember, these are just toys.

White Booth Wednesday #124

It's once again time for another Wednesday showcase here on the boulevard. Here's this week's featured vehicle.

Vehicle: 24 OURS
Series: 2011 Hot Wheels New Models
Boulevard Rating: 8
How I Feel About This Release: I know I can't be the only one that likes the various race cars you see at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I especially like the look of the Le Mans Prototype cars, and this casting is basically a Hot Wheels version of one. Now, it might not look exactly like the real cars, but I feel they did a masterful job at creating a nice looking LMP race car for us to collect. So this is one fantasy casting I will always grab. As for this particular release, the only thing I would have done differently is give it a clear wind piece. Other than that, this is an awesome release, and I'm glad I have it in my collection.

So how do you feel about this week's featured vehicle? Go ahead and let me know down in the comments. Till next time, happy collecting.

Today On The Boulevard: 2022 Hot Wheels Motor Show 5-Pack - Too Good To Not Get Multiples

Hello everyone! Welcome to another edition of Today On The Boulevard. It's no lie that 5-packs give collectors some very nice releases, and in recent years, I've found myself paying more attention to them due to that very reason. This has ultimately led to me adding some of the latest ones to my collection. And yes, they do take up a bit more space, however, it's all worth it at the end of the day! Now, as you saw from my social media post, today's topic is why I decided to buy multiples of the latest Hot Wheels 5-pack called Motor Show. So without further ado, let's get right to it!

Although these packs have releases I really like, I'll usually stick to just getting one because there isn't a release I want to have on display. And that's actually a good thing for my bank account. Anyway, things changed when I came across this new 5-pack hanging on the pegs. This pack not only had five awesome releases, it had one that I absolutely had to have on display. And it's one I've truly been waiting for.

Now, I'm sure most of you have already added this 5-pack to your collection, so you already know all five of the releases it has. And if you're not new to the boulevard, then you most likely know which one made me buy multiples. But if not, then allow me briefly talk about my all-time favorite car.

I'm going to assume that most of you had a dream car when you were a child. I did, and it was none other than the Dodge Viper. I was always fascinated by its overall design, and it continues to be my all-time favorite car to this day. Oh, and let me not forget to mention that blue with white stripes is my preferred color scheme for it. And the reason for that has to do with how the first Viper I saw as a kid was that very color scheme. So if you didn't already know, this 5-pack has a blue 2013 Dodge Viper with white stripes, and that is one of the reasons why it was too good to not get multiples.

OH YES! Okay, I'm sorry for the capital letters, which I know is considered shouting, it's just I can't contain my excitement. There's been many nice releases of this casting since its debut, and I do have a lot of them. But at the end of the day, none of them were given my preferred color scheme. And even though I still like them, I've honestly spent many days hoping to eventually see a blue one with white stripes. So I think you can imaging the big smile I had on my face when I saw this release.

I'm actually a little shocked at how this color scheme wasn't used for the Factory 500 H.P. release. You'd think they would have chose to use a different color, since the debut release was also red. But hey, it's better late than never, and I don't mind paying 5-pack prices for more than one. And I guess it is nice to also have a red one with stripes too.

Okay, I think I've said enough about the 2013 Viper. Now I need to put the spotlight on the other four, since I also wanted to have them on display as well. So the next release I'm going to talk about is the beautiful Renault Sport R.S O1. Now, for some reason, Hot Wheels has only used this casting in their mainline twice, and there hasn't been many more releases after that. Most of the ones after the second mainline release were in 5-packs like this one. And sadly, they are releases I don't have.

Since they're mostly using it for their 5-packs, I decided that I didn't want to miss too many of its releases. And to be honest with you, this latest release is one of the coolest ones.

So why do I think it's one of the coolest ones? Just look at how decorated it is! I love how they're starting to give us nicely decorated releases of this casting. I know the initial releases weren't plain, but they weren't as decorated as this or the previous one. I also like how they've continued to add details to the side of its wing.

The stripe design isn't the only thing I like about this release though. I also like the wheels choice. As you can see, the designers chose to use the lace wheels for this release. And I don't know about you, but I think it's nice to see a release of this casting with wheels that haven't already been used for it. Now, besides being used for the first time, I feel they complement its overall racing appearance. So it'd be nice to see more releases with them. But for all we know, this might end up being the only one with them. And that is another reason why I didn't mind buying multiples of this 5-pack.

The next car being brought to the "Motor Show" is the Aston Martin Vulcan. This is such a marvelous casting, and I've actually wanted to have one on display for quite some time now. But I never got around to getting an extra one. Well, I can finally say mission accomplished! In fact, I'm kind of glad I waited because not having one open already contributed to me having no problem buying multiples of this 5-pack.

I do find it interesting how orange is the color they picked for this release. I mean... there's nothing wrong with an orange Vulcan, I just think it's interesting how they chose to use the color again so soon. Of course, it isn't the same orange as the one used for the Car Culture release, but it's still orange nonetheless. So I do kind of think they should have taken the opportunity to use a completely different color, but I'm not going to complain. After all, being finished in this color has made it so I have a nice display model.

The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 is the next car I'm going to talk about, and I already had one on display due to me needing more releases for a mail-in promotion. So if you've ever visited the boulevard's World Wide & Exotics auto museum, then you already know which release I had on display. Well, I'll be putting that one away in favor of this one, since I really like the color the picked for its exterior.

If you haven't visited the aforementioned museum, then you should know that the one I had on display was the silver 2020 Nightburnerz release. I don't think I have to say it, but there's nothing wrong with a silver XE SV Project 8. I honestly think the car looks very beautiful finished in the color. I just currently have a few too many silver cars on display, which is why I wanted to have more diversity. And this release is exactly what I needed.

The last car being brought to the "Motor Show" is the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento. It might not be my all-time favorite car like the Viper, but it also made me say OH YES! Like the Renault, this too is a casting that hasn't had that many mainline releases. And sadly, I only had three other releases prior to this one. So since I don't have many of its releases, I figured why not also have one on display.

Besides not having many, there is another reason why I like this release. And it basically has to do with its exterior color. You never know when they'll stop using a casting, and they don't always use a certain color twice. So it's possible for a collector to miss out on getting a release of a casting finished in a certain color. With that being said, there's a small chance that this 5-pack could be the only way for any collector to have a yellow Sesto Elemento. And it's no lie that it looks stunning finished in the color, which is why it was a release I couldn't miss.

The Viper is obviously my favorite car from this 5-pack, but I can honestly say that all five of these releases are must-haves. Ultimately, the folks at Hot Wheels put together one hot 5-pack, and it has me excited for the other packs the're going to release this year.

So how do you feel about the Motor Show 5-pack? Do you have a favorite release? Go ahead and let me know down in the comments section. Alright, that's all for this edition of Today On The Boulevard. Till next time, thanks for reading, and happy collecting. And remember, these are just toys.

White Booth Wednesday #123

It's once again time for another Wednesday showcase here on the boulevard. Here's this week's featured vehicle.

Vehicle: Mustang Funny Car
Series: 2010 Hot Wheels Racing
Boulevard Rating: 10
How I Feel About This Release: I have few of the newer releases in my collection, but none of them are really as good as this one due to them being the retooled version. And as you know, they removed the opening featured from its design. It truly is disappointing that they did that, and that's why I'm glad I ended up getting one of these before the retool. So despite liking the livery they created for this release, it was ultimately the design of this casting that influenced my decision to give it a ten. I mean... who doesn't like a 1:64 scale model with a moving or opening feature? I, for one, absolutely love them, and that's why this will continue to be my favorite Hot Wheels Mustang Funny Car.

So how do you feel about this week's featured vehicle? Go ahead and let me know down in the comments. Till next time, happy collecting.

My Want List: 2022 Matchbox Mix 1 - Also Off To An Okay Start

Hello, and welcome to a new edition of My Want List. So why did I title this post the way I did? Well, in case you missed it, last month I was able to get all of the releases I wanted from this year's Hot Wheels case A. And thankfully, it's the same story with this year's first Matchbox mix. Like most of collectors, I'm usually not able to get everything I want from one store. In fact, there's been times where it took a whole month before I was able complete a case specific want list. Last year's case Q is a perfect example of that. Anyway, today is all about the releases I wanted from this year's first Matchbox mainline mix. So let's get this post started!

Do you consider a car to be rare because it's from a bygone era, or do you consider it to be rare because there weren't that many made? No matter what your answer is, it's no lie that the first release for today's post is rare because it's from a bygone era and there weren't that many made. So what's this rare car I'm talking about? Well, it's the 1949 Kurtis Sports Car, and it's a brand-new Matchbox casting.

I know I can't be the only one that didn't know about this car, right? Okay... since I can only hear crickets, that means I'm the only one. Well, I have no issue admitting when I have to do some homework on a vehicle. And this release caused me to once again turn to various sites like Wikipedia. The last time Matchbox made me do that was two years ago when they gave us the 1956 Powell Sport Pickup.

Despite not knowing anything about this car, it instantly made it to my want list because of its sporty appearance. Like I always used to say, I love the timeless look of these cars. Now, I honestly thought this car was from another country based on the design of its body. But what I didn't know was that this car is American. In fact, according to what I read, this car is regarded as the first "true American sports car."

As for how I feel about the casting, I think it came out great. In my opinion, it's a perfect 1:64 scale replica. And that's why I hope it gets many more releases than the Powell Sport Pickup, which has so far only had one release. I, for one, would love to see them use all of the colors they used for their other classic car castings. So that's colors like dark green, light blue, and cream yellow.

Mitsubishi is one manufacturer that's starting to show up more when you go down the diecast row. Not too long ago, Hot Wheels gave us two new premium castings. And now, Matchbox has given us another one. Making its debut is the 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT.

This is actually not the first 3000GT from Matchbox. Back in the '90s, Matchbox gave collectors the Spyder version of this car. And if they wanted to, they could have simply made an updated version of it. But I feel it was a much better idea to make this version, and I definitely appreciate how they chose to make it for their mainline. Since premiums from Hot Wheels are difficult to find, I can honestly say that I more interested in this casting's future. I mean, I'll get the Hot Wheels VR-4 whenever I can find it. But this 1994 3000GT is the one I'll be looking forward to each year.

I'm sure many of you were unable to add the Hot Wheels 3000GT to your collection due to it being near impossible to find premiums at any retail store. So hopefully being in the mainline will give more of you the chance to have at least one 3000GT in your collection. I know its exterior is slightly different, but at the end of the day it's still a 3000GT.

Zooming off of the pegs, and into my garage is the next release of the '15 Mazda MX-5 Miata. In an older post (I don't remember which one), I made mention of how I love Matchbox because they give us plain versions of cars. And that's the reason why I would look forward to a release of this casting from Matchbox. After all, Hot Wheels has yet to give us a plain release of their '15 Miata, and they probably never will. And that's fine by me, since I have the Matchbox ones. Anyway, for this year's release of the '15 Miata, the Matchbox designers chose to switch things up by applying a design to it.

Although I look forward to plain releases of this Miata, I will have no issue if this is the direction they choose to go going forward. After all, doing something different does keep things fresh, and it's not like they haven't already given us a few plain releases. But this is Matchbox after all, so the next release will most likely be plain.

A few years ago, there were certain vehicles I would have never added to my want list. Back then, I was mostly interested in collecting cars. But things are a whole lot different now, which is why the new 2018 Dodge Durango is the next release I checked off of my want list. Even though Hot Wheels also makes SUVs, Matchbox is the brand I'll look to first whenever I want a nice 1:64 scale replica of one. And I happen to think this is a really nice replica. That's why its future releases will be on my want list.

Although I think this is a nice replica, I'm sure some of you won't like it as much due to the fact that it has a black window piece. Having this piece instead of a clear one, means they most likely didn't create an interior for this casting. And I will admit that diecast models look better when they have a visible interior. So I can completely understand why some of you won't like it. I, for one, am just glad they gave us a new SUV to collect, which is why I can ignore this section of it.

The 2019 Audi TT RS Coupe is the next release I'm going to talk about, and let me start by saying that I'm a little bit disappointed with the color they chose for it. Lately, it seems like red and blue are the go-to colors for a new casting. So if they start with blue, then the next release will be red. And if they start with red, then the next one will be blue. The C8 and the 2020 Jeep Gladiator are a perfect example of that. Now, don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with a red TT RS Coupe. So don't think I hate this release. After all, I did add it to my want list, and I would have eventually wanted a red one. It's just I would have given collectors something a little different. You know, something to make everyone say wow!

There are many colors they could have picked to make this one really stand out from the debut release. After all, they don't have to make every release look like what you'd expect to see sitting at a dealership. So what they could have done was make this release purple with black wheels, or they could have made it yellow. I'm sure you all have your own opinion on what color they could have used, but those are just two of the options I instantly thought of.

Okay, I'm not going to complain about this release too much, and like I said, there's nothing wrong with a red TT RS Coupe. And I'm sure a lot of you were hoping they'd release one finished in red. So this release is sure to please many in the diecast community.

The 2019 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible is the next release checked off of my want list, and I happen to like this release just a tad bit more than the previous releases of it. Although... there is one design choice I don't like, but I'll get to that in a second. First, I'd like to put the spotlight on its exterior color, which is a marvelous metallic orange.

This is what I mean when I said something to make everyone say wow! And that was definitely my reaction when I first laid eyes on this release. They truly made this third release stand out from the previous ones by finishing it in this color. Of course, that's just my own opinion, and you might still think the debut release's color was the best. But if I wanted to be the center of attention on the road, then this is the color I'd pick for a convertible Beetle.

Now I'm going to talk about the wheels, since they are the one thing I don't like. Personally, they are not the right type of wheel for a modern car. And I will forever be critical about certain wheels being used for certain cars. The debut release of the DBR1 in another example of what I mean. Even though I have one on display, I still don't like how it looks with the five spoke wheels. That is why I feel it's time for Matchbox to have more basic wheels at their disposal. Anyway, as for this release of the Beetle Convertible, I would have considered either giving it the six spoke wheels or the ten spoke wheels. So despite liking this one just a tad bit more, I will admit that the wheels are the one thing the debut release has over it.

The weather is once again perfect at the BLVD, which means it's a great day to take the latest release of the '20 jeep Gladiator out for a spin. As you all know, this casting made its debut two years ago. And one of the things I said in the post I published, was that I hope the next release of this casting is finished in a color that hasn't already been used for the Hot Wheels version. I also said, as cool as it is to have matching releases, it's also nice to have some variety among them as well. Unfortunately, that has yet to happen. However, there is a reason why I don't mind them using a similar color for this release.

As you know, Hot Wheels also gave collectors a bright green Gladiator, and I didn't end up liking it due to how visible the decal on the door became. In my opinion, the decal on the door wasn't really necessary, and I feel the stripe would have been good enough. Anyway, since this release is plain, I feel it's a great alternative to that one. So that's why I don't mind them used a similar color this time around.

The last release I got is the 2011 Mini Countryman. Overall, this casting has had some nice releases, and this latest one is just as nice. In fact, due to a specific design choice, this release currently stands out from the other ones. And no, I'm not talking about the blue they used for its exterior.

As you can see, this release was given the split ten spoke wheels. Now, in case you haven't noticed, all of the previous releases of this casting were given the five spoke wheels. Obviously there's nothing wrong with that, but it is refreshing to see one that's a little different.

This truly is a nice release, but I have to say, a license plate would have made it look even better. I mean... why not create one for a release of this casting? So far, the license plate section on each release has featured "COOPER S." In my opinion, it would have been awesome if they gave this release a European style plate like Hot Wheels has done with some of their releases.

Okay, those are all eight of the releases I got from this year's mix one. Now, it is worth mentioning that my mix one want list initially had nine releases on it, but I chose to remove the ninth one once I saw it on the pegs. The release in question is the Nissan Harbody (D21), and I chose to leave it behind because it's basically a recolor of the one from the Truck Series. And that release is basically a recolor of the debut one. So I didn't feel the need to have a third one with the same side design.

Besides that one release, I feel Matchbox has started the year off right. And I can't wait to see what else they have planned for us.

So how do you feel about this first mix? Go ahead and let me know down in the comments section. Alright, that's all for this edition of My Want List. Till next time, thanks of reading, and happy collecting. And remember, these are just toys.

White Booth Wednesday #122

It's once again time for another Wednesday showcase here on the boulevard. Here's this week's featured vehicle.

Vehicle: '08 Dodge Challenger SRT8
Series: 2009 Hot Wheels Muscle Mania
Boulevard Rating: 10
How I Feel About This Release: I think we can all agree that this is a flawless release of this Challenger. I mean... how could anyone dislike it when it was finished in a great color, and given a stripe design that complemented its overall appearance. I guess it all comes down to personal preference though. But I feel green with black stripes is one of the best color schemes for this car. That's why I decided to give it a ten out of ten.

So how do you feel about this week's featured vehicle? Go ahead and let me know down in the comments. Till next time, happy collecting.
