Race Team HQ: Star Ghost

Back Then

Why hello there! Welcome to the Star Ghost race team headquarters. My name is Robert Vance, and I am the current owner of Star Ghost. My interest in racing started when I was really young, and that was because my dad used to race every weekend at the local track. Now, he wasn't 1:64 Scale GT famous or anything, but he was one of the fastest local drivers. And that led to the other racers calling his light blue '64 Corvette "Blue Lightning." You could always tell what everyone was thinking by the look on their face when they saw his Corvette sitting at the starting line. And that was one of the reasons why I enjoyed going to the races.

On my twentieth birthday, my dad decided to take me for a ride around the track in his Corvette. Now, even though I was into racing, I wasn't quite interested in actually driving a race car myself. But my dad was persistent on teaching me how to drive one, so I decided to just go for the ride. Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and that day would become a day to remember for the Vance family. Upon exiting turn three, his Corvette got loose. And as much as he tried to correct it, we ultimately lost control and ended up in a serious collision. This led to me being in a coma for a month. After I awoke, my family told me that I was the only survivor, and my right leg had to be amputated. After that, I began to dislike everything about racing.

Years Later

Years later I met my beautiful wife, and we ended up having two children together. Now, racing must have been in my DNA because Jake and Elie both started to show an interest in racing as they got older. And when they were old enough to drive, the first thing they wanted to do was drive in a race. To be honest, I was really hesitant on letting them go down that path, but I wanted to support their dreams.

It was around this time that my family told me about my dad's Corvette, and the letter he left behind saying that it was going to be the car that made me a famous driver. In other words, he wanted me to have it. So as much as I wanted to forget about it, I decided to go and pick it up.

The First Ghost And The Taunting Ghost Team Logo

If Jake and Elie were going to participate at the local events, they were going to need a car. So I made the decision to fix my dad's Corvette with some of the money I had saved. And it took about three years to get it up and running. It then sat in our garage for a few months because we couldn't decide on a color or a team name. The other members of the Vance family suggested that we bring back "Blue Lightning," but I was absolutely opposed to that idea.

One evening, I found some old Halloween pictures me and my wife took of our children. As I went through the photos, I came across one we took of Jake when he wanted to be a ghost. Seeing this photo made me remember how we went out trick-or-treating a little later than others because I had to discipline Jake for using his costume to taunt Elie. That memory gave me an idea for a team logo, and it would ultimately became the logo known as the "Taunting Ghost." The idea also helped me choose a color for the Corvette.

Racing Truly Does Run In The Family

Jake and Elie ended up being some of the fastest drivers at our local track. And thanks to them, "Blue Lightning" is now known as "The Ghost." According to the other drivers, our car would just vanish off the line and then reappear at the finish line. Eventually, the track announcers caught wind of what they were saying, and they too started to say that. So "vanishing off the line to the finish line" became our team's official slogan, and the rest is history after that.

Tri-Star Alliance

Star Ghost is one of the three Tri-Star Alliance members. This is an alliance between us, RPM Starz, and Red Bell. All three teams are the founding members of Union Diecast Racer.

Team Colors

White is our team's main color, and this was decided when I chose to paint the Corvette white.

Now that you know our history, I welcome you to take a look at our Ghost Fleet. And the first car you'll see is the one that started it all.

Our personal vehicles are also a part of our Ghost Fleet. You can usually see all of them whenever you visit, but some of them are used daily. So you might not be able to get a picture of the entire Ghost Fleet in one visit. There is one car that is always present though, and it is our replica of Nissan's R390 GT1. I was always interested in it, so I decided to have the team work on their building skills by making a replica. And no, it isn't just a decoration. Our replica can actually be driven.

These are our service vehicles, and you'll usually see them parked in their own garage that's next to our main garage.
