My Want List: 2021 Hot Wheels Case Q - Part 1

Hello, and welcome to another edition of My Want List. So how do you feel about this year's Hot Wheels mainline? In my opinion, it was remarkable! I feel it gave collectors many good looking releases of old and new castings. Of course, there were some design choices I didn't like, but that's to be expected. At the end of the day, all of the release I got are welcomed additions to my collection. Okay, now I need to focus on today's topic, which is my thoughts on the releases I got from this year's final mainline case. Overall, this case was loaded with many releases I wanted to add to my collection, and that's why I've decided to split this post up into multiple parts. So with that being said, let's go over the releases I checked off of my want list. 

Each and every single collector will have their own opinion of what the star of a case is. One group will think those are the special releases like the Treasure Hunts or the id Chase cars. Then there's another group (myself included) that thinks those are some of the other releases. And that's the case with the first two releases being talked about in this first part. 

Throughout the years, Hot Wheels has done a few different Firebird castings, and one of them is called the Hot Bird. Now it's not like I didn't already have one of these in my collection, but I never completely liked all of the design choices made for it. For those of you wondering which one it is, it's the blue 2010 Race World Volcano release. I might have liked it a little more if the wheels weren't red. Anyway, not liking that release is why I planned on trying to get one of the other releases off of the secondary. Fortunately, I don't have to now that I have this latest one from case Q.

The last time this casting saw the light of day was in 2013, so that's why I had my eye on what was for sale on Ebay. I really didn't think they were going to ever use this casting again since it's so old, but I'm glad they did.

I have to say, this release is definitely better than the one I initially had. Not only did they pick a nice blue for it's exterior, they also created a cool looking stripe design for it. They even decided to decorate the top half as well, and it wasn't just the hood. Oh, and let me not forget how it also features the Firebird logo, which is a huge plus for me!

This release was the perfect way to end this year's Muscle Mania mainline series. I hope next year's series features many classic muscle cars like this year's series.

No matter the decade, Aston Martin continues to wow automotive enthusiast with stunning cars, and I'm glad Mattel's diecast brands are able to give us 1:64 scale replicas of them. With that said, the second star of this case is the new Aston Martin V12 Speedster, and it's an absolutely beautiful car. 

I think we all love the look of exotic cars, but in recent years I've stared to like the ones without roofs more. In my opinion, not having a roof makes them look even more exotic. And thanks to it's design, this V12 Speedster definitely looks a little more exotic than some of their other vehicles. Of course, it's not as exotic looking as their Valhalla.   

As for how I feel about this casting, I think they did a fantastic job with it's overall design. And I especially like how they included it's side-view mirrors. What about the design choices made for this first release? Oh, I like those too. I really love it's exterior color, and I feel they picked the best possible mainline wheels for it.

Now that we have Aston Martin's speedster, we need to have the one from McLaren. And it's too bad they don't have the license to use Ferrari anymore, because I'd also love to see a Hot Wheels version of the Monza. In my opinion, all of these speedsters would look great sitting next to each other. Okay, let's get to the next release.

A few day ago, the 1:64 Scale GT held a run what you brung drag race, and RPM STARZ decided to participate. So we chose to bring our "Eastbound And Crowned" Dodge Coronet, which was a used drag car we bought. Since it wasn't in bad condition, we decided to fix it up and keep it's livery. To our surprise, we brought the best car that day, which led to us winning the overall competition. So you know what that means? That's right, it's was once again time to go shopping for another personal vehicle. And this time, I was in the mood for another pickup truck. 

After taking some time to think about it, I decided to go and see what Chevy had on their lot. In doing so, I came across the Chevy Silverado Off Road, and I decided to make it my next personal vehicle. 

After getting it back to HQ, I had my team throw on a stripe design just to give it a true RPM STARS theme. Okay, that's enough story telling for one post. In all seriousness, I feel this second one is a little better than the one released earlier this year. Between the two colors, yellow is way more eye catching, and that's what I like about it.

So what was your favorite Then and Now pairing from this year? Mine was definitely not the Mazdas! Uh oh, someone's salt levels have reached critical levels! Okay, I'm just joking. Anyway, this year's Then and Now mainline series has had a few pairings that I've really liked. One such pairing is the GT-Rs, and the recolor of the "Then" GT-R is the next one checked off of my want list. I'm so glad they decided to do a recolor of the 2000 GT-R. I, for one, was hoping they would after I saw the shade of grey they picked for the "Now" GT-R. 

Now to be honest, I still really like the first release, and it has nothing to do with the exterior color. As you know, the yellow release was given a black base, which helped to give the first release a complete two-tone paint scheme, minus the fender flares. Now I'm not saying this release looks bad with it's chrome base, but what I am saying is that the black base goes better with the design. 

This second release does have another thing going for it besides it's exterior color, and it's the wheels. After all this time, we've finally gotten a release of this casting with the lace wheels. It's awesome how they've started to use these more, and I think this GT-R looks outstanding with them. Now there's nothing wrong with the DD8s, but you have to admit that it's exciting to see a release of a casting with wheels that haven't been used for it already. 

Earlier in this year, Hot Wheels gave us a great looking '67 Mustang Coupe, and it was a release I was excited for. I don't know about you, but I wasn't too thrilled with the 2019 release of this casting, so I was glad to see a much better one. Anyway, they've decided to do a recolor, and it's apart of this case. Black is the color they picked for it, and I think it's a nice color for this casting.  

I do kind of wish they did something different with the wheels. As you know, the purple one also has grey 5SPs. So if it was up to me, I would have given this second release the Retro Slot wheels. Doing so would have definitely helped to set this one apart from the other one. But I guess they were trying to make the wheels match the grey stripe.

Looking At: 2021 Hot Wheels Car Culture - Hyper Haulers

Hello everyone, welcome to a new edition of Looking At. By now you all should know that it's not just about fast cars here at Diecast BLVD. No matter what type of vehicle it is, as long as it can satisfy the need for speed, then it's more than welcome to be apart of the boulevard, aka my collection. Now I don't know about you, but trucks are more than capable of satisfying anyone's need for speed. And even if it's not about speed, these vehicles are just as fun to drive as cars. So that's why today's post is going to be me talking about latest additions to my collection, which are the awesome trucks from the Hyper Haulers Car Culture assortment.

I think we all love when Hot Wheels decides to give us a new premium casting, and that's exactly what they did when they put this assortment together. With that said, making it's debut is the Baja Bouncer, which is an unlicensed trophy truck. I'll be honest, I usually prefer to only see licensed castings used for the Car Culture series. But I have no problem with an unlicensed casting being used when it looks as realistic as this one. And I'm sure they used an actual vehicle as a inspiration for it's design. I say that because at first glance, you'd think it was a licensed trophy truck. 

I, for one, love when Hot Wheels decides to do matching releases, and I think a lot of you do too. I mean how could you not? Anyway, this release was given the same Lucas Oil livery that was applied to last year's Wild Terrain release of the '67 Off Road Camaro. I actually quite liked the livery when I first saw it, and I thought it was going to be a one and done thing. So I'm honestly glad to see another release with it. I also think it's great how they chose to use the same decals, as well as the same wheels. Both of these design choices helped to further make this release match the Camaro.

Since it looks like this is going to be one of the liveries that's used, I feel it'd be cool if we eventually got a Team Transport hauler to go with these. As for the vehicle, maybe they could do use the '70 Old 442 that was used for the 2019 Desert Rally Car Culture assortment. Ultimately, I can't wait to see the next release that's sponsored by Lucas Oil, Fiftenn52, and Borla Exhaust.

You all remember the Super73 sale, right? You know, the one where you got a Ford Bronco R if you bought their bike. Yeah... I definitely wasn't going to buy one of their bikes just to add the aforementioned casting to my collection. At the time, I was a little disappointed because I thought it was only going to be used for special releases. But I should have known that wasn't going to be the case. And I'm glad because it's such a awesome looking vehicle. 

Based on the pictures I've seen of the real vehicle, I'd say this is a really good replica. And I'm not just talking about the casting itself either. What I'm also talking about is the livery, which is based on the one applied to the real Bronco R. I do wish they were able to add all of the decals, but I'm happy with the ones they could. It's also nice how the decals were accurately placed, although... BFGoodrich was placed just a tab bit higher, but that doesn't matter to me.

As stellar as this release is, I do have one small issue with it. What I don't like is how the wheels are all black. If it were up to me, I would have made the rim section of the wheels red. Doing so would have made this 1:64 scale replica a little more accurate. I know for a fact they could have done that because the Power Trip release of the '87 Buick GNX was given gold 8 DOT wheels with a chrome rim.

Besides my little issue with the wheels, this is still a ten out of ten release. And I'm happy I didn't have to buy the Super73 bike just to have one of these in my collection.

Earlier this month, I published a My Want List post where I talked about the releases I wanted from this year's mainline case P. One of the releases I got was a red Ford SVT Lightning. In that post I talked about how I wasn't able to get the premium version of the truck, but I didn't care because I was happy with the mainline version. Despite being satisfied with it, I was still wondering if I was ever going to have at least one release of the premium version. Well, the wait is finally over thanks to fact that I was able to find this entire assortment. 

Like I said in my case P post, the mainline one is a great alternative this one, and I still feel that way. But I have to admit that this premium one is a tad bit better due to it's proportions. 

Now then, as for how I feel about this particular release, I can honestly say that I like how they've decided to make it plain. I mean, I wouldn't have had an issue with it being given a design, but I definitely like having a plain release of this version that's finished in a nice color. I might still prefer red, but this truck looks a-okay finished in silver. 

There's been so many European vehicles released lately that one might ask if JDM castings are still a thing? Well, they most certainly are, and this assortment features one that I'm very happy to see. Finally, Hot Wheels has given us another release of the '75 Datsun Sunny Truck (B120). I was wondering what they'd chose to do for it's next release, and I can say that I'm pleased with the design choices made for this one. It's not plain like the first one, but that's totally fine by me because I quite like the design that was applied to this one.

So as you can see, this release features a great amount of decoration, and I love all of the additional decals. It's also nice how they decided to decorate the tailgate as well. 

There's one more detail I'd like to shine the spotlight on, and it's seen on the front of this truck. In some of my older post, I've made mention of how I love seeing custom license plates applied to these little vehicles. I know it's a small detail, but having one can make a diecast release look even cooler than it already does. And that's how I feel about this release having a plate that says "DAT SUNY."

When it comes to a future release with a design, I feel it'll be hard to top this one. I mean, I'm sure I'll have positive things to say about it if I like it, but this one will always be one of my favorites after the debut release.

Okay, the last release from this assortment in the '20 Jeep Gladiator. I was quite surprised to see a premium version of this casting. To be honest, I wasn't expecting it to ever be a premium, but it's nice that it is! After all, that means we'll get some outstanding releases with their awesome off-road Real Rider wheels. 

Overall, I think this is a really nice release, and I definitely like it more than this year's mainline release. And yes, that includes the one finished in blue. Anyway, one of the interesting things about this release is how they chose to paint the doors black. I'm not sure if they were trying to go for a carbon fiber look, so I'm not going to assume that by saying that's what they did. But what I can say is that I think it was a neat idea to make the doors a different color. 

Now this release does feature some additional decals, which are a little hard to see. So for those interested, the companies featured on this releases are as follows: Fifteen52, Eibach, and Bell. As you know, Bell makes all kinds of racing helmets. So because of this casting's dirt bikes, I feel adding that decal was a nice touch. 

I should also mention that I like the color they chose for the wheels. In my opinion, this particular gold goes great with the green that was picked for this release's exterior. 

Alright, that's all five of the trucks from this assortment. I have to say, they really did a good job with these. Now do I have a specific favorite? The answer is no. I can honestly say that I like all of them equally.

The Newest Team RPM STARZ Race Car

Hi everyone, welcome to another additional feature. Each year, the 1:64 Scale GT holds it's annual classic circuit race that's called the Ol' School 100. So participating teams bring their best classic cars to compete against each other for 100 laps. Now if you've visited the team's garage, then you already know that we has a few cars that'll qualify. In fact, for the past few years we've entered our RX-7, and it's gotten us a win. So it's not a bad car to use for the Ol' School 100, but I felt it was time to try and find a new car for next year's race. And that led to me going for a cruise around the outskirts of Diecast BLVD to see if anyone was selling anything worth being turned into a race car.

Initially, I wasn't impressed with what I was seeing for sale. So I was ready to call it a day, but I decided to turn down one last road. Upon doing so, I spotted a little blue barn with a car that piqued my interest. It was a '65 Ford Galaxie, and it wasn't in the best condition. But that's exactly what I was looking for! So I slammed the brakes to see if was for sale, and it was. 

It might have taken some time, but my team was able to completely restore it. According to one of my crew members, it's condition wasn't as bad as I thought, so restoring it wasn't that hard. Anyway, the car is ready to race in next year's Ol' School 100. So wish us luck!

Okay, that's enough story telling for today. In all seriousness, this is a very beautiful release, and I feel it's one of this year's best Treasure Hunt releases. And even if you disagree, you have to admit that it's better than last year's regular version. I mean.. I still like it, which is why I got an extra one to have on display. But this one is definitely better, and I'm not just saying that because it's a Treasure Hunt.

Besides being a special release that features my team's colors, it also features a fantastic amount of additional details. I have to say, they truly went all-out with the livery, and I love it! I especially like all of the additional decals. I know the previous release also had decals, but it didn't have as many as this release. Additionally, this Treasure Hunt release features real-life companies, which is another plus in my book.

Thanks to this release's overall design, I no longer have to try and get one of the older releases off of the secondary. Despite having the Gulf themed 50th Anniversary Favorites release, I still had my eye on one of the Vintage Racing releases. But this one's livery is just as good as the one I wanted to get.

All in all, this is a ten out of ten release, and I'm sure you all will agree. Okay, I'm done drooling over it. Now I want to share how I feel about it being a special release. 

To be honest, I was disappointed when I found out they decided to make this year's release a Treasure Hunt. After being placed in the mainline, I thought they were going to do many nice looking releases that were easy to get, but that hasn't been the case. I know this is only it's second year in the mainline, and I'm sure there's many more mainline releases to come. But there's always a chance they could decided to only do premium releases of it again. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't want to have to worry about trying to add another one of these to my collection. 

I should also mention that I know I could have had a fourth one, but it was a mail-in promotion, and the Ralphs locations near me never had enough releases for me to participate in the event. So that's another example of a special Galaxie release that's hard to get, and that's why I'm hoping for more releases that are easier to get. It's such a beautiful American classic, and I would really like to have more of them. But three is better than none, and I at least have two that I really like. So I'm satisfied.

White Booth Wednesday #114

 It's once again time for another Wednesday showcase here on the boulevard. Here's this week's featured vehicle.

Vehicle: '73 BMW 3.0 CSL RACE CAR

Series: 2016 BMW (Mainline)

How I Feel About This Release: This is such an awesome casting, and I remember how happy I was when I found the first color, as well as this one. Furthermore, it was one of my favorite new castings from the 2016 mainline, and that alone is enough of a reason to make me give it a ten out of ten. But I guess that's not entirely what these weekly post are about. So let me get to what I like about this particular release. As you all know, both of the 2016 releases feature color schemes that are based on actual liveries seen on the real cars. With that being said, I like how the designers chose to change this release's racing number detail. Now some collectors might not care, but I'm apart of the crowd that does. At the end of the day, a single detail change can sometimes be enough to make me score a release high, and that's the case with this release.

Today On The Boulevard: Another Chance At A Hot Wheels Comic-Con Casting

Hello, and welcome to a new edition of Today On The Boulevard. Whether it's the Screen Time series in the mainline, or the Entertainment premium series, it's no lie that both of these provide collectors with some great models. And I especially like when Hot Wheels decides to use castings that were initially Comic-Con exclusives. These releases make it so collectors like me have a chance at having great models without having to deal with the hassle of the event. The only thing that's special about the actual exclusives is that they feature the characters as well, but that doesn't matter to me. Ultimately, the vehicles are the only thing I really care about. 

So the release being talked about today is the Spiderman GP-7, and it was made for the 2019 Comic-Con. As I've said before, I'm not someone who can tell you everything there is to know about the various super heroes. In other words, I'm not a buff. I guess you could say that I'm more of a casual fan. 

I might not know everything, but that doesn't stop me from collecting unique models. As you know, I consider comic book and movie vehicles to be unique. And since I like collecting them, I definitely had to get this one. I should also mention that there's another reason why I wanted it. You remember the other Spiderman vehicle, right? Well I have both of the releases that came after the Comic-Con ones. So I figured I'd need to have this one too. We get many different Batmobile releases, but we don't always get releases of the other comic book and movie vehicles. So I can honestly say that I was stoked to find this release!

After I got done admiring this vehicle, I decided to do some research on it to see which story it came from. Upon doing so, I learned some interesting things about it. Now I'm sure a lot of you know the origins of this vehicle, so you can just skip this part. Still here? Well that means you're like me. So basically, this vehicle is from a Japanese television series produced by Toei Company with permission from Marvel. I had no idea there was a Japanese version of Spiderman. As for the car, I learned that it could fly and was equipped with weapons. I also learned that this version of spiderman used a ship called "Marveller" that could transform into a giant robot called "Leopardon." 

Besides looking for information on this vehicle, I also needed to find pictures to use as a reference. I like Hot Wheels, but I also like to see some amount of accuracy with their replicas. So based on the pictures I found, I'd say this is a pretty good replica. I, for one, feel they did a good job re-creating all of it's features. 

At the end of the day, this is definitely a must-have release for both collectors and fans of the franchise alike. And I'm so glad I had another chance to get this vehicle.

Hot Wheels 1/4 Mile Finals & A Matchbox

Hello, and welcome to a new additional feature here on the boulevard. For the most part, I'm able to find most of the releases I have on my want list. However, there are times when I'm only able to find remnants. And sadly, that's usually the case with the various store exclusive sets from both of Mattel's diecast brands. It's especially disappointing when it's a set that features releases I'd love to have. But as you know, I don't make these releases a priority, so I'm never truly upset. After all, I've been collecting for a while now, so I'm used to how things are with this hobby. 

Now then, as you can see from the title, both of Mattel's diecast brands have released a Walmart exclusive set, and I was only able to find remnants from both. The Hot Wheels set is called 1/4 Mile Finals, and the Matchbox set is the second assortment of their Truck Series. So with that being said, I'm going to talk about the releases from the Hot Wheels set first, since most of what I got came from it. After that, I'll talk about the release I got from Matchbox set. So let's get started!

I have to say, I really like this new 1/4 Mile Finals set, and I truly wish I was able to find all five of the releases from it. Unfortunately, the stars didn't align for me that day. All but one of the releases were left, and I think you already know which one was hoarded. I mean... I'm sure you weren't able to find it either, or maybe you did. Anyway, I know Bugatti's vehicles are stunning, but it's truly unfortunate that folks have decided to make them the ones to hoard like they do with the various Datsun releases. I might be wrong, but I really don't see these newer Bugatti releases going up in value like the original Veyron did. But what do I know, it's not like I'm interested in any of that anyway. Alright, that's enough talk about the one I couldn't get. Let's move on to the four I got.

The first release I'm going to talk about is the Lamborghini Aventador Miura Homage. The last time Hot Wheels released this version of the Aventador was back in 2018. Ultimately, there were two different color releases of it, and one of them was a Kmart exclusive. After that, I was curious to see what color they'd choose for the next release. What I didn't know, was that I was going to have to wait a few years to get my answer.

I know this is the Miura Homage edition of the Aventador, but I actually have the very first release of this casting. And in case you didn't know, that release was also finished in orange. So it wouldn't have been an issue if I wasn't able to get this one. But since it was there, I figured why not have all three color releases of the Miura Homage.

Although I got it, I have to admit that I think the other two are slightly better. Sure, orange and gold is an okay color scheme, but I think the other two colors picked combine a little better with the gold that was used for the stripe. Of course, that's just my personal preference for this particular Aventador. To be fair, this is still a great release for those of you that missed the other two color releases.

The Porsche 918 Spyder has finally made another appearance, and I'm glad it got overshadowed by the Bugatti. I was eagerly awaiting another release of this casting, and I'm pleased with the design choices made for it. Although... there is one thing I don't like about this release, but I'll get to that in a minute because I want to focus on what I like first.

As is the case with a lot of releases, the exterior color picked is what made me want to have this one. I believe it's the same green that was used for the recolor of the 2018 release of the 934 Turbo RSR. And I feel it's a color that's perfect for just about any Porsche.

The stripe design wasn't something that made me buy this release, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. It's just I don't always look at all of the detail applied to each release because I don't spend too much time down the row after I get what I want. For the most part, I hone in on specific things I like. Anyway, now that I've had the chance to really look at it, I think it's a nice addition to this release. 

Alright, like I said, there's one thing I don't like about this release, and it has to do with the lack of details on the back half of it. For some reason, Hot Wheels chose to omit those details for this release, and I feel it was a mistake. In my opinion, this casting just doesn't look right without it's exhaust details. I really hope having a stripe design didn't make it so it couldn't have them. I don't like speculating, but it'd be truly disappointing if that was the case. The mainline releases were also given stripe designs, so I don't see why this release couldn't have also had the additional details too. And you'd think they would have added them to a release that cost slightly more than a mainline.

The third car I'm going to talk about is the McLaren Senna. I don't know about you, but yellow is one of my preferred colors for the P1. And that's why the 2016 release continues to be one of my favorites to this day. Now why did I bring that up? Well, it's because I've wanted to see the Senna also finished in the color. And after five years, my prayers have finally been answered!

I have to say, the Senna looks absolutely marvelous finished in this color. I know I've said this in an older post, but I'm going to say it again. I love how exotic cars look finished in bright colors. They truly help to make these vehicles stand out even more than they do. Now it might seem like this is my new all-time favorite release of this casting, but it's not. Currently, I like all of this casting's releases equally, and how could I not. This is one of those cars that'll look good finished in just about any color. I'm just excited to finally have one finished in yellow.

The '18 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon might not be an exotic like the other three, but it's definitely worthy of being in this set with them. And I'm glad it's one of the ones that was left because I really like the design choices made for it.

I don't know if it's an exact match, but I'm going to say this release is finished in a color that's based on Dodge's Destroyer Grey. Since I don't have access to a real one, I have to use Google Images to make a comparison. And compared to the color seen in most pictures, this one looks just a tad bit lighter. But don't quote me because I'm not sure. Ultimately, the color picked for this release is fantastic, and it contributed to it being another great release of it.

Besides the color, I also like how they choice to give it a black stripe design, and all black wheels. I just wish they painted the entire hood black, but that's okay because I have no issue with the stripes on the scoop. 

Okay, now it's time to talk about the release I got from the second Matchbox Truck Series assortment. Similar to the Hot Wheels set, all but one of the releases were there. In my area, the '70 Chevy El Camino is the one that was hoarded. And that's perfectly fine because that made it so there were multiples of the '62 Nissan Junior left on the pegs. I was truly overjoyed to see it because it was the only one I really wanted from this second assortment. 

My reasoning for wanting it has nothing to do with the fact that it's a JDM. Do you remember White Booth Wednesday #105? If you missed it, the vehicle I picked for that edition was the debut release of this casting. In that post, I said that I didn't end up getting any of this casting's latest releases because I didn't feel the need to have one of these with a design. Well, I also should have said that the designs created for them weren't to my liking. So I've been patiently waiting for one with a design I like, and the wait is finally over! It's like they say, "good things come to those who wait."

The design created for this release is exactly what I was waiting for. You could never go wrong with a simple design that features Nissan's racing colors.

Alright, that's all of the release for today's post. All in all, I'm happy with these five new additions to my collection. Now then, as for the Veyron, I'll keep an eye out for it whenever I go to Walmart. After all, I was able to eventually find the Exotic Envy Chiron, so there's still a chance.
