Best On The Block: August 2021

Hello everyone, welcome to the very first edition of Best On The Block. These post will usually feature six of my favorite releases from various posts that were published in the month. Furthermore, they aren't going to be very long or in-depth. I'll basically be stating why I decided to pick the release for one of these post. With that said, here's the six best releases on the block for the month of August.

This year's Matchbox mix four featured the debut releases of two very cool castings, and they are the first two I picked for this post.

Exotic cars are already beautiful machines, but in recent years, I've started to think they look even more exotic without a roof. So that's why the McLaren 720S Spyder from Matchbox is one of my favorites from August. Oh, and let me not forget it's exterior color, which also contributed to how much I like it.

The 1984 Toyota MR2 was definitely going to be one of the releases featured in this post. As you know, this casting has multiple versions. In my opinion, the version I got is one of the best ones. Like I said in the post it's originally featured in, being a right-hand drive casting makes it a true JDM. Furthermore, the headlights being flipped up helps to highlight the vehicle design styles of the era.

Okay, the next two are from Hot Wheels, and they were released in their case L.

If you ask me, this is a flawless release of the '71 PLymouth Road Runner, and it's all thanks to the design choices that were made for it. I especially like how it looks with the retro slot wheels. So among the releases I wanted from case L, this was one of the ones I was anxiously waiting for.

Do I even need to say anything about this casting? I think not! Picking this new Liberty Walk casting for this post was a no-brainer, and I think you'll all agree that it's one of the best releases on the block.

The "Ford Race Team" themed box set, or more specifically, the MK2 that's in it, is the fifth one I picked for this first edition of Best On The Block.

Don't get me wrong, I like all of the releases featured in this box set, but the MK2 is the one that's new. You might not have, but I've been waiting for a new Ford Escort casting from Hot Wheels, and I'm really happy with their decision to make this classic. And let me not forget the awesome livery that was applied to it.

The last release I chose for this post, is the Hot Wheels Boulevard Lancia Stratos Group 5.

I wasn't alive back when these marvelous group 5 cars raced, and I'm sure it was a sight to behold. Fortunately, I'm able to have 1:64 scale replicas of them thanks to brands like Hot Wheels. And despite not featuring the actual Alitalia livery, this first release is looks great.

So, what were your favorite releases from this month? Go ahead and let me know down in the comments section. Alright, until next month's edition of Best On The Block, happy collecting.
