Racing onto the boulevard

Racing onto my boulevard today is the new Hot Wheels Car Culture Door Slammers assortment. This is a fantastic set for someone like me who likes classic sports cars. Although I do have a gripe with the Porsche in this set. I will get to that, but first up is the BMW 2002.

You can't go wrong with the BMW racing stripes. Then combine that with the Eibach sponsor, as well as the other decals, you end up with this nice racer. You also can't go wrong with these wheels either, they give it that classic race car look. Okay up next is the Ford Escort, one of my favorites from this set.

Alright, it's official, I now have a new favorite Ford Escort. Just like the 2002, this has those classic Minilight style wheels. The design though, is a real looker. It reminds me of the KPGC110 Skyline livery. The paint is actually a very dark metal flake blue, and it looks good with the gold color of the livery. Next up is the Datsun 510.

I will be honest, this is probably not my number one favorite 510, but it's still cool nevertheless. The design is not bad, it's just it needs some racing decals to really make it pop. But again it's still cool, and a welcomed addition to my garage. Alright up next is the Alfa Romeo.

The Alfa is a little plain like the 510, but it at least has the clover (AKA the Quadrifoglio) badge. I do like the color of the four spoke wheels. In my opinion they look fantastic combined with the color scheme on the car. The design does appear to be based on an actual race design for these cars. So up next is the issue I have with this set.

You see, this exact Porsche was released in the mainline, with a recolor too. I only got this so I could do a comparison between the two.

The first thing to notice is the premium base. The blue is darker than the mainline release. The second difference is the decals. The mainline one has the Fifteen52 decal, where as the premium one does not. Other than that, the sides are the same. Now Lets look at the top of the car.

For the most part they are the same, but the premium one has headlight tampos and a decal above the MW decal. Other than that they are the same. I have to say I'm disappointed with the decision to do this Porsche again. A different livery would have been nice, maybe a Brembo Brakes livery, or a livery with a simple design and a racing number like the 510. In my opinion, anything would have been better than a premium re-release. Aside from this Porsche, this is a great set. Okay thanks for stopping by the boulevard, happy collecting!
