Unlike some of the other trios, all three of this case's Red Editions are licensed castings, and I suspect that many collectors are going to like one of the releases more than the other two. And the reason why I'm saying that is because the manufacturer's vehicles usually have the most hype in my area. As for me, I think all three of them are nice releases. Although... I do have to admit that I kind of like the Automobili Pininfarina Battista the most.
Words can't describe how pleased I am to see another release of this beautiful casting. I was hoping they'd give collectors more basic releases of it, and I think it's great how we didn't have to wait till next year to find out whether or not we'd get another one.
I'm extremely pleased with their decision to use red for this special release of the Battista. I know there would have most likely been a red release of this casting at some point in the future, but it could have been finished in a dark version of the color. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that. But in my eyes, the red that's typically used for the Red Editions is a perfect color for a hypercar like this one. That's why this is my favorite case "K" Red Edition.
The second case "K" Red Edition is new Porsche 935, and I suspect that it is the most popular one. Of course, I could be wrong, but I highly doubt it because most Porsche releases nowadays have the same amount of hype as a Volkswagen Bus. And I can understand why. Over the years, Porsche has made some noteworthy cars, and their latest 935 is definitely one of them. So I'm not surprised at how they are usually some of the hardest diecast releases to find.
To be honest, I still kind of like the previous two just a tad bit more. Wait, what? Yeah, that's right. Both of those releases feature a livery that was available for the real car. And I happen to really like the John Player Special one. Now, one could argue that this release is technically based on the one with the Martini livery. And I could totally see why someone would say that. Like that example of the 935, this too has a white exterior, red stripes, a black number circle, and red wheels. The Red Edition logo was even placed in the same spot as the decals that are seen on that particular 935. The only reason why I'd disagree is because the actual car's stripe design is a little different. And I'm sure you've also seen the pictures of it, so there's no need for me to describe the differences.
As far as I know, there is no actual 935 that looks exactly like this one, but that's the great thing about diecast brands like Hot Wheels. Thanks to them, we're able to see how the 935 looks with a livery that wasn't available for it.
I might like the previous two releases a little more, but this release does have one thing going for it, and it's the wheels. To be honest, I thought most of this casting's releases would have the Aero Disk wheels. So it's nice to have one that's different. Of course, I'm sure there's going to be more releases of this casting with different wheels, and there might just be another one with the Lace Wheels, too. But what if there isn't? That's one of the reasons why this is a great release to have. So hopefully all of you were able to find one as well.
There are five releases in this year's HW Hatchbacks mainline set, and for the most part, I was pleased with them. However, the Subaru WRX STI is the only one I didn't completely like. Now, I did like its exterior color, but I just wasn't impressed by the mix of colors they picked for its stripe design. If it was up to me, I would have made the center stripe white instead of pink.
There ended up being a recolor that was red, and I considered getting it because I thought it had a better color scheme. But I never got around to getting one, and I kind of regret it. Thankfully, the Hot Wheels team has chosen to give us a third color, and I didn't think twice about getting it.
In my opinion, this third release has the best color scheme. I mean, the second release's color scheme is also nice, and it's definitely better than the first release's color scheme. But for this particular release, I like the combination of black, white, red, and grey more.
Like this year's first release, this too has the 10-spoke wheels, and I actually don't have an issue with them being used again for this release. In fact, I'm glad they were because a lot of the black Red Editions have a black wheel with a red rim. And I'm sure that's what this release would have had if they used the MC5s again. Now, I'm sure many collectors wouldn't have cared, but I think this Subaru looks much better with an all red wheel.
I'm sure most collectors will think the last Red Edition trio is still the best. Especially since two of them are extremely popular castings. But I'm going to go ahead and say that these are just as good. Okay, now it's time to take a look at the Treasure Hunt. So let's move on.
The Treasure Hunt for this year's case "K" is the '87 Dodge D100, and I absolutely love the design choices that were made for it.
In recent times, the Hot Wheels designers have created some very eye-catching Treasure Hunts that features a lot of decoration. So even though I don't expect to find them, I've definitely been keeping an eye out for them. And I'm glad I looked for this one because it has a terrific BFGoodrich livery.
Now, I don't know if you've noticed, but this release also features the Mopar color scheme. So I would have placed the Mopar decal where they placed "HWGRFX." Having the aforementioned decal would have made this release look even better than it already does. It also would have made it match the 2020 "Power Trip" release of the Hemi Cuda, as well as that assortment's '18 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Ultimately, there's nothing wrong with this release, I just think they've missed the opportunity to create something really special.
Well, those are the four additional releases I got from case "K." I guess I can now say that I'm completely done with the case. Of course, special releases are never usually added to my want list, so I was already done with this case anyway.
Okay, how do you feel about these four releases? Is the Porsche 935 your favorite, or do you like one of the other ones more? Go ahead and let me know down in the comments section. Alright, that's all for this edition of Today On The Boulevard. Till next time, thanks for reading, and happy collecting.
